About this wine
This Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced exclusively from the Showket Vineyard in Oakville, Napa Valley. Oakville is home to some of the most sought-after Cabernet grapes in the Napa Valley. Within the Oakville appellation, Showket Vineyards is perched in the hills above Silverado Trail. With neighbors like Dalle Valle, Vine Cliff, Phelps’ Backus vineyard, Oakville Ranch, Turnbull’s Weitz Vineyard and sitting above Screaming Eagle and Rudd Estate—this is undeniable prime Cabernet real estate.
Winemaker Notes
Our 2005 Showket Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon might be the most complex wine we have ever released. The vintage gave us perfectly ripe Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, so we increased the percentage of the Cabernet Franc to 15% and it shows in the finished wine. In addition to our hallmark black berry and cassis aromatics, this vintage shows hints of violets, tobacco and cedar from the additional Cabernet Franc. On the palate it is very round and seductive. It starts with a lively grip and gains size and depth as it opens up.
Food and wine
The 05 Cabernet Sauvignon will be a perfect compliment to hearty dishes, but can also stand on its own. We suggest you pair this wine with a porterhouse steak.

Indie Winemakers' Tasting Notes
Our mission is to provide unbiased opinions of the wine being offered. These notes come from up to 10 guests who tasted this wine in a blind tasting format (wine is concealed so their identity is unknown). Why this format? Tasting blind completely throws out any hype associated with a certain winery, style, price point, etc; it forces the taster to accept what is in the glass without any predetermined notions. Our guests utilize Robert Parker's Glossary of Wine Terms for their comments for consistency purposes. In addition, we utilize the wine aroma wheel to enhance one’s ability to describe the complexity of wine flavor. Notes are posted on this wine during the tasting to ensure they accurately reflect the impressions.

About the Vineyards
The vineyard, which is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Sangiovese experiences slightly cooler temperatures in the summer than the valley floor and slightly warmer ones in the winter. Because of the elevation and orientation of the vineyard no frost protection is required. The soil is clay-loam type that is very rocky. The vines are stressed sufficiently to produce excellent wines. The tonnage is considerably less than what vines produce on the valley floor giving intensity in flavor that can only be produced in such a pristine hillside vineyard. The vineyard is managed by the well-respected and highly reputable Pina Vineyard Management.
About the Vintage
2005 had unseasonably late spring rains which delayed flowering and caused concern about crop loss and mold problems. Fortunately, the fears were unfounded. The summer months were mild and pleasant followed by continued warm, nearly perfect ripening conditions in the early fall. Continued warm, dry weather allowed for extended hang time and great flavor concentration. Virtually the whole valley brought in an exceptionally fine vintage. The 2005 vintage will be long remembered for bringing us remarkable quality!
